Hard Disk Failure - How do I know the disk has failed ?

Answer:

Hard disk failure is typically indicated by one or more of the following symptoms :
  • Hard disk is not accessible or not recognized by BIOS

  • Hard disk is making clicking noises

  • Hard disk is deadly silent

  • BIOS could detect the disk but the OS could not mount the physical disk volume (normally associated with firmware damage)

  • BIOS detects garbage characters which is not the usual disk model displayed
